Jamie Carragher has moved to diffuse the Steven Gerrard row by claiming Liverpool can cope without their inspirational captain after he was ruled out for up to a month.[LNB]As revealed by Sportsmail, Liverpool are expected to claim £500,000 compensation from the FA to cover Gerrard's wages after he suffered a hamstring injury on England duty.[LNB]This despite apparant promises by the England camp that the midfielder would not play beyond the hour mark of Wednesday's 2-1 defeat against France at Wembley.[LNB] Down and out: Gerrard looks dejected after he pulls his hamstring against France[LNB]Gerrard will miss Saturday's must-win home game with bottom side West Ham on Saturday as well as games against Tottenham, Newcastle and Aston Villa.[LNB]But Carragher says Liverpool can manage without him and points to a 2-0 win over Tottenham last January when the side was missing both Gerrard and striker Fernando Torres as proof Roy Hodgson's side can still win games.[LNB]'There is no doubt Steven will be missed whether we win, lose or draw because he is such an important player here,' said Carragher.[LNB]'But it is up to us to perform well and lessen the impact, like when we beat Spurs (2-0) in January without him and Fernando (Torres).[LNB] Frustration: Carragher (left) tangles with Danny Collins in the 1-1 draw with Stoke[LNB]'There are a few similarities because that game came a few days after a disappointing result against Stoke when we drew 1-1 but we showed we could bounce back.'Everyone knows what great quality Steven has got and it is frustrating for everyone - though nobody more than him - that he is out because he has been in such good form.'But the most important thing now is beating West Ham. We know we didn't perform at Stoke but if we get three points tomorrow, the league table will look much better and we can push on.'[LNB] Gerrard agony! £500k bill for FA as injured Liverpool captain is ruled out for a month Liverpool fear four weeks without Steven Gerrard after broken deal with EnglandGet Johnson!
