Is Henrikh Mkhitaryan the latest name on Liverpool's hit list?

There has been a lot of talk over who Liverpool will & won’t sign this summer, with a lot cantered around Denmark and Ajax superstar Christian Eriksen.

But there are a lot of lesser known players who could be just what the Reds need this summer to beef up their attacking final third.

One such name is Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

His name most likely doesn't send alarm bells ringing at first (unless you know your Ukrainian football) or you chose to watch Borussia Dortmund vs Shaktar Donetsk over the Real Madrid vs Manchester United tie in the Champions League.

But the 24-year-old attacking midfielder has got people talking over the last few seasons while playing alongside the likes of Brazilian-born talents Willian, Eduardo, Taison and Douglas Costa. Mkhitaryan’s name might not roll off the tongue as easily as theirs do, but he’s been no less impressive.

He is capable of playing both in a central striking role, in one of the wide forward positions or running in from midfield; Mkhitaryan is a very modern footballer who always seems to be on the move and looking to make things happen.

What makes things interesting is he is the type of player Liverpool need to sign this summer.

He fits the FSG model to the letter and has the experience to back it up, with Brendan Rodgers trying to instill a quick and possession based game in his players, Mkhitaryan's addition would represent an excellent bit of business.

He told Skysports: "For every player to play for the strongest clubs in the world is a dream, and I will do everything possible to move this summer to a different team."

The Metro reported recently that the player had switched agents and is now represented by Italian super-agent Mino Raiola and in the long run hopes to secure a summer move to Liverpool.

It would make perfect sense for Brendan Rodgers to move for Mkhitaryan, with his recent comments and agent switch all pointing to a move of some kind occurring this summer, stealing a march on their rivals and wrapping up this deal could go a long way to helping build for next season.

Although a large portion of Reds fans would prefer the stellar name signing of Eriksen, Liverpool might well be priced out of a move for the Ajax man by rival clubs with deeper pockets and seeing as Mkhitaryan can function in the same positions and had a return of 24 goals in 34 matches from midfield this season, I for one wouldn’t complain at his signing.
