Jordan Henderson has signed a new five-year contract with Liverpool, putting him in pole position to take over from Steven Gerrard as club captain.
As Gerrard heads off to the States with – it has to be said – a rather disappointing collection of medals in his suitcase, it’s up for debate whether or not being the new him is actually a good thing.
Some people feel the ‘new Gerrard’ tag flatters Henderson.
Maybe being the new Gerrard means he’ll be vastly overworked – unless Liverpool flex their muscles in the transfer market.
But this guy thinks the comparison is just plain invalid.
The deal is worth a reported £100,000 a week – an amount he definitely is or isn’t worth, depending on your point of view.
Of course, there are some of his team-mates who would scoff at such a paltry wage.
Whatever you think of the Gerrard comparison, Liverpool fans are delighted to have Henderson signed up for another five years.
