Is Henrikh Mkhitaryan's move to Liverpool drawing closer?

24 June 2013 14:36

As its been widely reported by multiple news sources (Skysports, Dailymail, Mirror etc) Liverpool are very much interested in signing Armenian & Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

There have been reports circulating that bids have been made but since then the news seems to have cooled.

Let’s start off with what we know about this situation:

Brendan Rodgers is keen on Mkhitaryan as he feels he is the player that can add the extra 20 goals a season from an attacking midfield role.

Shakhtar's chief executive, Sergey Palkin, had originally said that there had been no official contact with Liverpool, but that approach is now understood to have occurred, Anfield officials are hopeful about concluding a deal. (Guardian)

Shakhtar share ownership with a business group that invested in the player - a situation common at clubs in Eastern Europe and South America. (Mirror)

Mkhitaryan said: ‘I promise that you will hear any news first on my Facebook page or the official club website.’ (Panarmenian.net)

The ownership issue seems to be main stumbling block in getting this deal done, Liverpool seemingly have to negotiate with three parties in order to get player's moved finalised.

Artur Petrosyan of the Sport-Express.ru has tweeted a few updates on the situation saying that:

"The only news atm is that he hasn't joined up with #Shakhtar although he was supposed to do it on Sunday."

And then followed up with:

"Don't expect the deal to be agreed soon. It's much more complicated than it seems with all this owners stuff."

Seems like Mkhitaryan to Liverpool move is still someway from getting resolved, but it doesnt mean the move is off.

Let’s all look forward to a busy summer and hopefully to more arrivals ...... as soon as more info on this situation comes to light I’ll be putting up another article be sure to check back.
