Ings could be the thing for Liverpool
Brendan Rodgers is keen to address the paucity of the Liverpool striker options in the January transfer window by making a move for Burnley’s young hot-shot Danny Ings. The England U21 international has been one of the main reasons behind the Clarets’ unexpected promotion drive this season, and his progress has not gone unnoticed.
With Daniel Sturridge now ruled out for six to eight weeks, the Reds are facing their second ‘striker-crisis’ of the season. With a chunk of Luis suarez’s suspension left over from last season, Sturridge was entrusted with carrying the weight of Liverpool’s goal-scoring for the opening games of the season. That the England man successfully did this, leading to a string of 1-0 victories, did not disguise from Rodgers the fact that his cupboard was a bit bare at the front end of the squad. With Sturridge now out of action, and following a tame surrender at Hull on Sunday, Rodgers is unlikely to wait long before seeking to resolve the issue.
Whilst Burnley will doubtless be reluctant to release Ings, economic reality for the Lancashire club suggests that Sean Dyche’s club will have little alternative but to accept any realistic offer from the Anfield outfit.
