Imminent Reds deal denied

Liverpool co-owner George Gillett is not close to selling his stake in the club, according to a spokesperson involved in his talks with a potential investor.

Gillett is reported to have held talks with Saudi Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah al-Saud in recent weeks.

However, the deputy managing director of Faisal's F6 investment company, Gassim Hamidaddin, has dismissed suggestions that a deal is close to being agreed following Gillett's recent visit to Saudi capital Riyadh.

"The purchase of a stake in Liverpool has not been discussed throughout Gillett's visit, not for even five minutes," he told The Daily Telegraph.

"The discussions are now on hold. The idea of buying a stake in Liverpool was put on the table in September but since then nothing happened."

Gillett is reportedly keen to offload his 50 per cent stake in the Anfield club, which he bought alongside fellow American Tom Hicks in 2007.
