Kop flop Alberto Aquilani has vowed to prove boss Rafa Benitez was right to spend £20million to sign him from Roma last summer, determined to repay Liverpool fans for their patience and support during his wretched spell at Anfield so far.

The Italian midfielder has been blighted by injury problems and has managed just seven starts for the Reds since his high-profile arrival.

Even Liverpool legend Ian Rush has singled him out for scathing criticism, suggesting he has not done enough to justify his staggering transfer fee.
