Ian Rush: It’s crunch time in Liverpool’s bid to kick-start season

Published: 24 Nov 2009 - 06:00:00

THESE are tough times at Anfield but it's vital we remain positive and get behind Rafa Benitez and his players during a crucial week. After a run of just one win in 10 games it's easy to criticise, but the manager needs our support now more than ever. Liverpool Football Club is famous for its loyalty. Our fans don't slag off the boss and they are there for the players when they are most needed. It's a waste of time to be speculating about Benitez. The time to make an assessment is at the end of the season. In May you have to ask whether we have made progress over the course of the season? Have we won a trophy? Have we finished in the top four? If the answer is no then you have to look around and decide whether someone else could do any better. I still believe Benitez will turn things around but there's no question the next five days are absolutely massive with two 'must-win' games. First up, it's Debrecen in the Champions League tonight and no team talk should be needed.
