Ian Rush: Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti's words are lacking in experience

06 October 2009 00:00
I WAS more than a bit surprised to hear Carlo Ancelotti saying the League title is now Chelsea's to lose. I know he's new to the Premier League but you really do have to choose your words carefully. To say the league is anyone's to lose in early October is hugely premature. And you can bet nobody at Liverpool - not to mention the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United, hardly see it that way. No. You should only make statements like that in the season's proper run in, when the maths is on your side and only a slip up on that final straight can get in your way. There are just far to many points to play for and months to go for that sort of statement in my book. As for Sunday's game, while like everyone I was really disappointed by the result, there wasn't much at all in that performance to be discouraged by. I was convinced we were heading for a 0-0 draw and only a slip by the otherwise superb Javier Mascherano let Chelsea in.
