IAN RUSH: Alberto Aquilani needs to find a sense of adventure for Liverpool FC

23 February 2010 01:00
FEW Liverpool players have been discussed as much this season as Alberto Aquilani.[LNB]As the man signed to replace Xabi Alonso, it was inevitable that he would find himself under a spotlight and there have been some encouraging glimpses from him.[LNB]Has he really done enough though? The simple answer, sadly, has to be 'no'.[LNB]One bold display against Tottenham apart, he has found things very difficult and he is in desperate need of a big effort very soon to ease some of the mounting pressure.[LNB]Aquilani can clearly pass the ball well but, at the minute, he seems very much of the 'safety first' mindset, heading backwards and sideways rather than forwards.[LNB]If he gets a chance to start on Thursday night, he simply must grasp it with both hands.[LNB]Romanian trip will not cause Liverpool FC any problems[LNB]EUROPE returns to the agenda on Thursday evening and I'm expecting Liverpool to ease past Unirea Urziceni.[LNB]The first match at Anfield last week was not what you would call a classic, as the Romanians put 11 men behind the ball, were well organised and we struggled due to a lack of creativity.[LNB]It will be a different contest in Bucharest, however, as Unirea will have to attack to stand any chance of progressing.
