According to The Sun Steven Gerrard has revealed that he would like to play under manager Jose Mourinho and has even refered to him as 'The special one'.

The former Chelsea manager is a known admirer of the England and Liverpool captain and almost persuaded him to join the London club in 2004 and 2005, a period when Mourinho led the blues to two Premier League titles and the League Cup.

The self proclaimed special one didn't give up in his pursuit of Gerrard and renewed his interest when he took over as the Real Madrid boss, saying he couldn't understand why the player was still under achieving at Liverpool.

But now in a fans Q&A on Twitter the Liverpool player said 'I would like to play for Mourinho, the Special One.'

A lack of major honours at Liverpool has often led to speculation that he could leave Anfield and join one of the other major European forces but the Kop idol has remained loyal to his boyhood team.

When he was asked about the interest from Mourinho when he was Chelsea boss Gerrard said:

“Liverpool weren't really challenging at the time, so there was something to think about.

“But I ended up saying ‘no’ and a year later I said ‘no’ again. But he came back when he arrived at Real Madrid two years ago.

“I look at some players who get interest from clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona and they cause absolute wars to get out and get there.

“But that has never been me and, again, it just wasn’t going to happen.”

The Anfield skipper also insists leading Lverpool's Istandbul comeback against AC Milan to claim the Champions League in 2005 was the 'best night of his career'.
