Hyypia agrees Anfield exit

Veteran Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia will end his decade at Anfield this summer after agreeing a two-year contract with Bayer Leverkusen.

The 35-year-old Finn moved to the Reds from Willem II Tilburg ten years ago in a £2.5million deal and made almost 500 first-team appearances for the club.

He made his debut against Sheffield Wednesday at the start of the 1999-2000 campaign and formed a strong partnership with Stephane Henchoz.

Hyypia played every minute of 57 consecutive European games for the Reds from November 2001 to February 2006 but has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in the last two seasons since the arrival of Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel.

He has made only two appearances since the 1-1 draw against Everton in mid-January.

Hyypia joins a Bayer side that is currently eighth in the German Bundesliga table.
