How a good summer could leave Liverpool looking next season

As I’ve previously written Brendan Rodgers and his team at Liverpool are actively seeking new recruits this summer and this obviously means that some players are on the way out.

Some fans might kick up a stink over names that I’ve suggested could leave, that’s fine, we are all entitled to our own opinions, but I’m just stating possibilities over Liverpool's future plans.

If the players i listed in a previous article (Peter Gulácsi, Sebastian Coates, Martin Skrtel, Jay Spearing, Andy Carroll & Fabio Borini) do end up leaving in the summer, that would give Rodgers a decent amount of money to kick start the second phase of rebuilding this Liverpool team in to his own.

Let’s say for example Liverpool manage to get £15m for Carroll, Skrtel £12m, Coates £5m, Spearing £2m and £8m for Borini that’s already £42m plus a further £20m of investment from FSG (a figure that’s been thrown by multiple sources: DailyMail, Mirror, Talksport).

If you throw in other possible sales like Assaidi & Pacheco for £2m each that’s a total of £66m of potential funds that Brendan Rodgers would have to spend on summer recruits.

At that point you factor in the potential targets of Toby Alderweireld (£9m), Christian Eriksen (£17m), Ashley Williams (£5m) & Kevin Gameiro (£10m) that’s an affordable outlay of around £41m.

Rodgers would still potentially have £25m left in his kitty to fund any further transfers with names like Hatem Ben Arfa, Tom Ince, Victor Wanyama, Ryad Boudebouz, Stefan de Vrij & Diego Capel all being mentioned as possible targets.

I for one believe that the potential targets are vastly superior group of players than the group we would be letting go and the incoming group would genuinely make Liverpool a better footballing team.

Rodgers got the transfers right in January with Daniel Sturridge hitting the ground running with goals in his first three games for the club and Philippe Coutinho scoring two and providing three assists.

If the aforementioned targets do end up in Liverpool colours we could be in for more of the same.

Potential Liverpool starting XI for the 2013-2014 season.

You would still have have on the bench: Gameiro, Alderweireld, Downing, Henderson, Sterling & Allen.

Or other scenario's we could see this:

With Alderweireld swapping out for Williams and Gameiro taking the lead striking role and Suarez and Coutinho playing in from the wings.

Still leaving: Eriksen, Henderson, Downing & Sturridge on the bench.

Or even this:

Which would see Coutinho drop to the bench and Sturridge play on the right wing as he did alot of the time at Chelsea.

In an ideal situation though, if the right transfers happened we could even possible see this:

What ever the outcome in the summer though, look for Liverpool to up their game next season and with the hopeful arrival of new players the 2013-14 season could be a great improvement in terms of where the club is heading.
