Hodgson hopes to sign striker

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has not given up hope of signing a new striker before the transfer window closes but the one he already has at his disposal is finally showing glimpses of a return to form. Fernando Torres scored his 41st goal in his 43rd Barclays Premier League match at Anfield - and his 50th in all competitions at the ground - to dispatch 10-man West Brom 1-0 on Sunday. Torres will always be first choice when he his fit but he has yet to get through any of his three previous seasons at Anfield injury free. Major problems in the last campaign, including knee operations in January and April which prematurely ended his domestic interest, contributed to a disappointing seventh-placed finish. Which is why Hodgson is looking for a quality player as cover in order to ease the burden on the Spain international. The 62-year has dismissed suggestions PSV Eindhoven's Sweden striker Ola Toivonen could move to Anfield but he has also been linked with a move for West Ham's Carlton Cole. Hodgson admits he is looking for a particular type of player but Toivonen does not fit the bill. "We've got space to add a player. We'd like another striker, we've said that all along and there's no point me denying it," said the Reds boss. "But we still haven't found the right man and time is running out for us. Toivonen is a good player but not the profile I'm looking for."
