Hillsborough disaster: Kenny Dalglish expects families to get justice
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish insists he was never in any doubt that the families of fans who died in the Hillsborough disaster would be able to take a step closer to seeing their quest for justice realised after a motion calling for documents to be released was passed unopposed.[LNB]In a debate in the House of Commons lasting more than four hours on Monday night, Home Secretary Theresa May insisted the Government was committed to disclosing the full facts surrounding the 1989 tragedy which claimed 96 lives.[LNB]And Dalglish, who was manager of Liverpool at the time of the disaster, believes the outcome was a victory for football as a whole.[LNB] Sombre: Then Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish (left) with players and families at the Hillsborough memorial service at Liverpool Anglican Cathedral in 1989[LNB]He said: 'I thought it was past the post anyway.[LNB]'I didn't see any reason why they would be prevented from getting what they wanted.[LNB]'It is a fantastic success for the families, it is a huge step forward for them, getting access to what other people have seen with the papers that are there.[LNB]'I don't know if they are for publication or not but when they see them, I am sure it will give them a great deal of encouragement.[LNB]'There has been some fantastic work done by Andy Burnham and Steve Rotheram.[LNB] Narrow defeat: Dalglish watched Liverpool lose to Rangers at Ibrox[LNB]'Andy Burnham came up two years ago and said that he would try to push this forward and he has kept to his word. Steve Rotheram is the local MP who has pushed it forward.[LNB]'So a lot of people have done brilliantly for the families. All they want is some closure on it.[LNB]'I don't know how long it will take to go through the papers but I don't think the speed is the most important thing; I think care and attention to the detail is the most important thing.[LNB]'I'm sure there are plenty of good people who will do that. It's fantastically encouraging for everybody.'[LNB] Campaign: Many feel that the police should take responsibility for the tragedy[LNB]He added: 'It wasn't just about the city.
