Hertha need Champions League to fund bid for Liverpool loan star Voronin

Hertha Berlin will only offer Andriy Voronin an escape route from Liverpool if he fires the German side into the Champions League. The Ukraine striker's goals have propelled Hertha to the top of the Bundesliga but a £4million bid depends on them staying in the top three and securing a cash windfall from Europe's elite competition. Voronin's loan deal expires at the end of the season and he has already claimed he is happy in the German capital and has no intention of returning to Merseyside. 'We cannot go through with a transfer unless we have extra funds from the Champions League, so it depends on whether or not we qualify,' said Hertha president Werner Gegenbauer. 'We can give and receive no promise, but we have to wait and see what happens at the end of the season.'
