HATCHET MAN: Riled Rafa gives Manchester United boss Sir Alex extra reasons to be cheerful

Sir Alex Ferguson will be celebrating a double victory today that will leave him smug with satisfaction. Not only has he guided Manchester United to another League title, equalling Liverpool's record of 18, but he has also been given confirmation of the complete annihilation of his rival Rafa Benitez in their personal battle. In refusing to personally congratulate Ferguson, the Liverpool manager has delivered the perfect present to his counterpart. Before the title was clinched Benitez scraped the bottom of the barrel by insisting that United's superior points total didn't make them better than Liverpool. Then, when Ferguson was knee-deep in plaudits, the Spaniard showed that he is still riled by the United manager's mind games this season. What more could he ask for? The idea of these public spats is to get under the skin of your opponent and rattle them. Benitez couldn't be more bitter and is still biting on Ferguson's barbs long after the Scot made them or considered Liverpool a threat. He'll drink to that.
