HATCHET MAN: Relief as Rafa pens new deal but it isn't Liverpool breathing a sigh

Thank goodness for that. Everyone can relax now Rafa Benitez has finally signed a new contract as manager of Liverpool. The widespread fears about the end of the Spaniard's much-loved rotation policy have proved unfounded. Clubs around Europe with second rate full backs and overpriced wingers need fret no more about who might take them off their hands and any anxiety Sir Alex Ferguson had about not being fully appraised of the facts has disappeared.   Oh yeah, and Liverpool can forget about ending their title drought before 2014. The fact that the ridiculously protracted contract negotiation is over is the best that can be said about Benitez's decision to sign. So congratulations to Liverpool's cunning American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks. The £5million a year you have committed the debt-ridden club to is money really well spent.
