Harry Kewell has signed to play for Melbourne Heart in the 2013/14 A-League season.

The former Leeds and Liverpool winger told the club's website he was "thrilled" to be joining Heart, a move which follows a short spell with Al-Gharafa of Qatar.

John Aloisi, Heart's manager, is equally as excited about the 34-year-old's arrival, having said that the Socceroos legend is still more than capable of producing good performances.

"I have been in regular contact with Harry over the past few months and have been so struck and impressed by his hunger," Aloisi said.

"He has always been a wonderful professional and a winner and, in spending time with him, nothing has changed.

"I watched Harry’s progress in the Middle East very closely and it’s clear that physically he is in great condition so we are confident that, with a big pre-season, he will be flying by round one."

Heart face city rivals Melbourne Victory in that opening round of fixtures, who Kewell spent a season with before leaving for family reasons.

He will line up wearing the number 10 shirt, although he will not be Heart's marquee player, according to Heart CEO, Scott Munn.
