Up for the cup: Gus Poyet[LNB]Brighton manager Gus Poyet admits hisside will need to play the 'perfect' game if they are to beat Liverpoolin the Carling Cup. [LNB] The Seagulls, flying high in the npower Championship and unbeaten at their new Amex Stadium, got past top-flight opposition in Sunderland in the second round.[LNB] But Poyet knows his players face another step up in class against an Anfield outfit who see the competition as a realistic chance of lifting a trophy this season, not to mention one still smarting from a 4-0 defeat by Tottenham at the weekend.[LNB] Add to that the likely return of Steven Gerrard to the Reds midfield after injury and Poyet could be forgiven for being a shade pessimistic.[LNB] But the Uruguayan is determined to enjoy his 100th game in charge of Brighton - and says his players should do the same.[LNB] 'When the draw happened it was like a celebration here, like we'd won the league again,' he said.[LNB] 'I'm not going to change that because they have a great chance to play against a top-class team.[LNB] 'There is no better feeling for a player who was playing in League One three months ago to play in front of 22,000 people against Liverpool. I'm not going to try to bring down those emotions.[LNB] Back in action: Gerrard set to return against Brighton[LNB] 'A team in the situation Liverpool are in, this is a cup which can be very important. It can be a trophy in the cabinet so they will take it very seriously.[LNB] 'Saying that, they have injuries and suspensions so it will be a different team. But I know any player who comes in, like Dirk Kuyt or Craig Bellamy, will be top class so it's going to be difficult.[LNB] 'On top of that if they react (to Sunday's defeat), play well and have the right attitude then we are going to suffer.[LNB] 'We need to be at the top of our game and be a bit lucky, and maybe if Liverpool aren't then we've got a chance. If both teams play at the same level Liverpool should win because they are quicker, stronger and better technically.[LNB] 'We have to make sure we are better than them on the day and take our chances. You need practically the perfect game to beat them - but we are going to try.'[LNB] Poyet could hand a debut to former Spain midfielder Vicente, who joined as a free agent earlier this month, while 38-year-old assistant manager Mauricio Taricco is set to play at left-back.[LNB] Bellamy set for Liverpool start in Carling Cup clash with Brighton Coates determined to make his mark on Merseyside after losing Liverpool debut[LNB] [LNB]
