GRAHAM POLL: Gallas' challenge on Gerrard WAS a penalty

14 December 2009 01:40
[LNB] Why Howard Webb did not award Steven Gerrard a penalty when William Gallas clearly brought him down with a foul tackle in the first half will remain a mystery due to match officials' enforced silence. [LNB]Whether it was Gerrard's previous record of going down a little too easily that sowed doubt in the mind of England's top-rated referee, or just a poor viewing angle, the correct decision was not made and Liverpool lost a chance to take the lead. [LNB] Flashpoint: The ball has gone but Gallas clearly halts Gerrard in his tracks[LNB]The reason was certainly not that offered by Gallas's colleague Thomas Vermaelen, who claimed it couldn't have been a foul as the ball had travelled too far away from the Liverpool skipper. [LNB]If the ball is in play anywhere on the field then a penalty can be given.[LNB] You're not fit to wear the shirt!
