Goodbye Agger: Gokhan Inler to become Liverpools 'major signing'?

In news coming out of Anfield today, it seems that Liverpool are ready to offload their Danish defender, Daniel Agger to former boss and current Napoli manager, Rafa Benitez, with Swiss midfielder, Gokhan Inler moving to Merseyside as part of the deal.

Benitez failed to sign Martin Skrtel last summer and since then the Slovakian has been one of the top performing players for the Reds this season. It is because of this, as well as the presence of Sakho and Toure, that Agger is not guaranteed first team football any more and a move to Napoli will certainly provide him with more regular action as Benitez is desperate to strengthen Napoli’s weak defence.

29 year old Inler has been a regular in Benitez’s team this season, however the Napoli boss is prepared to offload the Swiss midfielder if it meant capturing Agger. Inler, whose preferred position is as a central midfielder and has scored two goals in twenty appearances for the Italian side this season, would be seen as an ideal replacement for Lucas Leiva, who is not expected to return to action for at least another six weeks.

After a dominant 4-0 victory in the Merseyside Derby, Brendan Rodgers must strengthen his squad if Liverpool are to going to seriously challenge for one of the coveted Champions League spots.
