Goal shy Liverpool's woes set to continue?
The premier league returns this weekend, therefore it’s another chance for Liverpool’s strikers to make an impact.
Liverpool’s worst start to a season for 50 years takes another tough trip to the stadium of light to face Sunderland. It’s another test for Brendon Rodgers struggling strike force to start firing.
A horrible last few days of the transfer window has left Liverpool with just two recognised strikers. New singing Fabio Borini and the erratic Luis Saurez. Rodgers was left aggrieved that the board let Andy Carroll go, but failed to sign a replacement. A below par offer to Fulham for Clint Dempsey and a failure to lure any recognisable strikers to the club, have left the fans very disappointed with the clubs transfer dealings.
All the club has now for backup is youth. One player to arrive on deadline day was young Samed Yesil. The young German has an incredible goal scoring record at youth level for both club and country, scoring 19 goals in 20 appearances for the German youth sides. It’s a big demand for a young foreign striker to adapt to the physical demands of the premier league, but with a predatory instinct, it may not be as big of a problem.
There’s also young Dani Pacheco and Adam Morgan. Pacheco had a lot of hype when he arrived at Anfield. Graduating from Barcelona’s famed youth school ‘la masia’. But Pacheco has failed to live up to his hype, even though he is a regular for the Spanish youth teams, he has yet to cut it in the premiership. As for Morgan, he has appeared so far this season in the Europa league qualifiers against Hearts and made a solid impression. Only 18 years of age he looks a raw talent with a real knack of attacking the box, something that Liverpool really lack at the minute. Except these few options, Liverpool suffer a real lack of depth.
With the away trip to Sunderland, Liverpool follow it up with a home tie against their arch rivals Manchester United. A fixture that they will need to be at their best to get a result.
