Glen Johnson: Liverpool FC will come through 'awful' spell of form

10 Nov 2009 10:00:00

Glen Johnson 300 GLEN JOHNSON today insisted Liverpool will emerge from their 'awful' spell stronger than ever as he placed his faith in the squad's powers of recovery. The Reds' miserable run continued last night as Birmingham held them to a 2-2 draw at Anfield, while Albert Riera and Yossi Benayoun sustained fresh hamstring injuries. Both men are likely to be sidelined for a month that will see Liverpool fight for their lives in the Champions League and lock horns with Manchester City and Everton in the Premier League. Rafa Benitez's men now trail league leaders Chelsea by 11 points but Johnson - who joined up with England's squad today - is refusing to panic. He believes Liverpool showed flashes of their best form against Birmingham and says the atmosphere in the dressing room afterwards proves they will rectify the situation. 'We want to be winning these games and I felt we did more than enough to take three points but it just wasn't meant to be,' said Johnson, who really caught the eye. 'You could say we could have dealt with the first better but (Cameron) Jerome has hit the strike of his life for the second goal. 'We had chances, we dominated the game and you can see everyone was working for the cause. It's just one of those times for us at the minute and we just need to keep working. 'As long as we keep showing the togetherness and passion that we did here, then I'm sure we will come through with a smile on our face.
