    Gerrard slams Ronaldo

    13 Aug 2006 - 11:08:36

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has blasted Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo for his part in Wayne Rooney's sending-off in England's World Cup quarter-final defeat.

Portugal winger Ronaldo got involved in a tussle with Red Devils team-mate Rooney after the stamp on Ricardo Carvalho, before winking at his bench after the England striker had been red-carded.

Gerrard was less than impressed with those actions, telling The News of the World: "His part in Wayne Rooney's dismissal was a disgrace.

"What really got to all the England players was Ronaldo's wink to his bench. It was a wink which said 'job done'. How could he do that to his Manchester United team-mate?

"On the bus after the game Wayne asked me 'what do you think about the wink?'.

"I said if we were playing Spain and Xabi Alonso or Luis Garcia winked at the referee or gave a signal for me to be sent off, I'd never speak to them again."
