Gerrard urges fans to be patient and remain positive

Steven Gerrard explains that the changes at Anfield have affected the team's form so far this season, but remains positive about the club's future, both on and off the pitch.   I'm always honest and realistic, and its been an inconsistent start for the team so far this season, but I'm certainly one for being negative and joining in with the critics. We've got five points, but we've got Sunderland and Blackpool coming up, both winnable games at home. If we take six points from them then I'm sure the league picture will look a lot brighter. The frustrating thing is that we've had players coming back late from the World Cup and new signings coming in close to the deadline. It's not just a new manager, it's new coaching staff, new ideas, new routines, new techniques, we've got new fitness coaches, diets have slightly changed, training methods have changed, so there's always going to be that transitional period and it's always going to take a bit of time. It was never going to happen overnight, finishing seventh in the league then everything going to be rosy and go straight to the top of the league. "At the moment winning the league seems a long way off. After finishing seventh last year and already losing two games of course it looks a long way off, but I certainly won't give up on it and try to put in my effort week in week out to try and achieve that dream and hopefully at Liverpool, with a bit of help off the pitch, I still think that dream is possible. "I feel exactly the same as Liverpool fans because if I weren't captain i'd still support the team and follow them so I can certainly understand their frustration, but they need to do what I'm doing, be patient and believe in the people on the board to make the right decisions. One day it will happen, there will be a new board and a new vision that can take this club forward and the positive days will return."
