iverpool captain Steven Gerrard has conceded the last 12 months have been the most difficult of his career but is confident the worst is over.[LNB] Gerrard admits Liverpool's poor form last season and the takeover turmoil surrounding the club "messed" with his mind.[LNB]The 30-year-old now hopes things are on the up for the club under new owners New England Sports Ventures and he is looking forward to a bright new era at Anfield.[LNB]"I think the last 12 months have been the most difficult since I was 18 when I broke into the first team," said Gerrard[LNB]"Finishing seventh in the league and the stuff that went on off the pitch has made it a difficult time to be a Liverpool player.[LNB]"It was exactly what I didn't need, personally, after the World Cup. Exactly what the club didn't need as well. It's been a shock to a lot of people, me included.[LNB]"On the back of the disappointment with the World Cup you are hoping to come back to your club and get off to a positive start.[LNB]"You can try to put the World Cup behind you. But if you like, it's sort of continued from then in terms of disappointment. It's been a really tough start to the season.[LNB]"Hopefully that is all behind us now. We're just glad to get the ownership turmoil sorted out. Now the debt has gone off the club and we have a new era with new owners and a new manager."[LNB]Gerrard admits he is feeling a lot happier with his side's recent improvement after a tough start to the new season.[LNB]"Results are starting to turn and improve. So yeah, I'm a lot happier and confident that things can be brighter moving forward," added Gerrard.[LNB]"But looking back, you heard rumours that the takeover was going to happen. Then it doesn't happen and that messes with your mind.[LNB]"Your moods change when you hear different news at different times.[LNB]"I always had belief. We were told to be patient and eventually we would get the right fix - and we have got it.[LNB]"I wouldn't like to say we have definitely turned the corner but we are certainly on our way around it.[LNB]"I have seen the owners and I came out of the meeting very happy with what I'd heard. They gave me my chance to say what I thought.[LNB]"Now we move on and hopefully the good times can return very soon."
