Steven Gerrard is proud to be captaining England. Gerrard will lead England out for their last sixteen clash with Germany this afternoon and it's an occasion he's proud to be involved in. "As captain I want to lead this team as far as I can," said the Liverpool midfielder. "I got the armband under difficult circumstances but it's my responsibility now and I'm loving it and enjoying it. I'd love nothing better to win this game and lead the boys into the last eight, and maybe even further. "These are the games when you need to stand up and be counted. This is the stage, growing up, you want to be performing on. There could be a big moment in the game that could define any player's career. It's a fantastic game to play in and we are all looking forward to it. "We are on the back of a good performance against Slovenia. The mood is good, we have prepared hard for this game and we will do whatever it takes to get across the line into the last eight. "It is going to be a very difficult game. Ideally we want to win in 90 minutes but if we have to go to extra-time and penalties, we will be ready. "Experience helps in being ready for this game. I have been involved in massive games throughout my career and that will hold me in good stead. There is a lot of pressure because there is so much at stake, but it is more excitement and I am looking forward to it. I can't wait to get out there for the game."
