Gerrard pleased with performance

Steven Gerrard was happy with England's performance yesterday. Gerrard believes England showed their qualifying form in yesterday's 1-0 win over Slovenia that sent them through to a last sixteen date with Germany. "When you need to win a game and you don't finish teams off and get that second or third goal then you are going to be really anxious at the end, but I thought the lads were terrific today," said the Liverpool and England captain. "We did everything that could be asked for. We showed passion, fight, team spirit, togetherness and quality as well. We thoroughly deserved to go through. "We've done this before as when our backs are against the wall and there are people doubting us we roll our sleeves up and produce the goods, but we need to do that all of the time to get to the final stages of the tournament. "The mood in the dressing room is 100 per cent better and everyone is smiling. There's a relief as well because the lads have been under a big amount of pressure. "We need to find consistency now, especially in the knockout stages because if we perform like we did against Algeria then I don't think we will get another chance."
