Gerrard pleased by new arrivals

Steven Gerrard hopes the competition for places Kenny Dalglish has added at Liverpool will stand them in good stead for a successful season.[LNB] Liverpool have signed Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing, Charlie Adam and Alexander Doni so far this summer and are still on the lookout for a left-back and centre-half.[LNB]Gerrard, who is set to miss the start of the new Premier League season, is happy with the new signings and believes the extra competition can only be a good thing.[LNB]"I believe we've made some very good signings this summer, with Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing and Doni all coming in," he told the club's official website.[LNB]"Hopefully there will be one or two more arriving before the transfer window closes. You always want competition for places because it's a long season.[LNB]"Obviously it gives the manager more options and it also pushes the players on because they know not everyone can start every game."[LNB]
