The former Reds skipper is looking forward to being back home, when he will line up alongside fellow legends including Robbie Fowler, Jamie Carragher, Ian Rush and Daniel Agger on March 25th.
“I’m so excited. I think it’s a couple of years since I last played at Anfield," he told the official site. "I’ve been to a lot of games of late and I’m absolutely steaming to get out there and play against Real Madrid and with all of my ex-teammates. I’m so excited, I can’t wait for it.
“I’m often asked the question what was the best buzz during your career and it was always running out at Anfield with the Liverpool shirt on in front of a full house.
“Obviously there’s a new stand involved now and hopefully we can get a lot of people there to support the Foundation because that’s the key thing here.
“It’s the main incentive. For myself and all the other players it’s the reason why we are doing it. It’s a great fixture but the key to all this is that we raise some funds, it stays in the local areas and it goes back to less fortunate people.”
