Liverpool midfielder Luis Garcia has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in Tuesday's Carling Cup defeat to Arsenal.
The Spaniard had to be stretchered off the pitch after coming on as an early substitute, and was replaced by Jamie Carragher with 15 minutes left.
A scan confirmed that Garcia has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
Liverpool's head of press Ian Cotton told the club's official website: "Unfortunately we expect to be without Luis for six months."
Meanwhile, Mark Gonzalez, will be sidelined for three weeks with the shin injury he sustained in the 6-3 home defeat to the Gunners. A scan has shown severe soft tissue bruising and bruising to the bone of his right shin.
However, Stephen Warnock has been told he only suffered bruised ribs during the second half of the game and he will be fit enough to play against Watford on Saturday.
