A dramatic winner from Yossi Benayoun deep into added time tookLiverpool two points clear of Manchester United at the top of thePremier League last night to pile the pressure on the champions. For much of a tense game at Craven Cottage, it looked as if Unitedwould be fuelled by relief at being level on points with two games inhand as they go into their match at Old Trafford against Aston Villatoday. Liverpool huffed and puffed but just could not blow down thehouse of a resilient Fulham - conquerors of United a fortnight ago -who had a 12th man in the goal frame. Four times it came to theirrescue. But then substitute Benayoun struck, drilling home from 12yards. Skipper Steven Gerrard said: 'There were times towards the endwhen I thought it was not going to be our day. But Yossi popped up witha fantastic strike and I thought it was the least we deserved. It's amassive three points.' While Gerrard conceded United are still title favourites, manager Rafa Benitez knows the importance of today's Villa game. Hesaid: 'Hopefully they will make a mistake and we can stay at the top ofthe table.' Benitez threw all his attacking big guns at the game ratherthan rotating his squad, having come to the realisation that the redhalf of Liverpool craves the title above all else.
