07 May 2014 14:50

With one of the most unpredictable and exciting seasons in recent memory coming to an conclusion, the shortlist for the FTBpro PFA Fans' Player of the Season has been announced. The twelve players below have all been vitally important to their team’s success this year, and six of them have been awarded the FTBpro PFA Fan Player of the Month award at some point throughout the season.

Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal)

Aaron Ramsey certainly deserves to be on the list of nominated players for the Fan Player of the Year award having scored 13 goals in 27 appearances in all competitions before his injury.

Luis Suarez (Liverpool)

Suarez has won the FTBpro PFA Fan player of the month award three times this season in October, November and again in January and was deservedly crowned PFA Player of the Year voted for by his peers. There aren't many players in the world right now who can compete with Suarez and his goal scoring exploits, a worthy candidate for the fans award.

Alvaro Negredo (Manchester City)

The Manchester City striker’s first season in the Premier League has been very successful and he was crowned the FTBpro Fan Player of the Month for December after scoring three goals in six games. Negredo’s goals helped City win five of their six Premier League games in December – the only points they dropped were in the 1-1 draw against Southampton. In total Negredo has scored an impressive 9 goals this season, 7 of which have come at home.

Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool)

When fit and available Daniel Sturridge has performed at a consistently high level this season and England fans will be hoping he can take this form into the World Cup. Sturridge is the highest scoring Englishman in the Premier League this season and would be a worthy winner of the fan player of the year award.

Eden Hazard (Chelsea)

The Chelsea and Belgium international winger has been by far Chelsea’s standout performer this season. Under the guidance of Jose Mourinho, Hazard has enjoyed his best season in a Chelsea shirt since moving to the club and has scored 14 premier league goals this season. The Chelsea midfielder won the FTBpro PFA Fan Player of the month award in March helping Chelsea to crucial wins against Tottenham and Arsenal in which he scored penalties in both games. Despite missing games in April through injury, in recognition of his great performances this season the 23 year old was recently crowned PFA Young player of the season.

Raheem Sterling (Liverpool)

The 19 year old Liverpool winger has been in great form since breaking into the first team under Brendan Rogers this season scoring 9 goals and 5 assists. Sterling’s form saw him win the April Fan player of the month award in which he scored three times. Sterling scored in the 3-2 win over title rivals Manchester City and then followed this up with a brace against Norwich as well as providing an assist for Luis Suarez in another 3-2 win. The young England international will be hoping his good run of form particularly towards the end of the season will be enough to see him included in Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad.

Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)

Playing in a slightly deeper role this season , Gerrard’s performances particularly during the last month have been instrumental in Liverpool’s surge towards winning the league. Ultimately it looks like they might just fall short to title rivals Manchester City but nobody can deny that the England captain has reinvented himself under Brendan Rogers this season. Gerrard has scored 13 goals from midfield and provided 12 assists for his team-mates- the highest in the Premier League this season. Without Gerrard, Liverpool quite simply would not have been in a position to challenge for the title.

Wayne Rooney (Manchester United)

By all accounts it’s been a very poor season for Manchester United this term and they are on course to record their lowest ever finish in the Premier League era. However that said England striker Wayne Rooney has still managed to score 17 league goals this season. Rooney arguably scored the goal of the season against West Ham in March, a stunning lobbed volley from the half way line. despite the upheaval at Old Trafford this season Rooney’s form in front of goal has been impressive and he deservedly takes his place on the shortlist for the fans player of the season.

Yaya Toure (Manchester City)

The influential Ivory Coast midfielder has been in outstanding form this season and his drive and determination from midfield has seen him score 19 league goals this season. Toure is the highest scoring midfielder in the Premier League and if Manchester City are to win a second Premier League title in three years then Toure must take a lot of the credit. He has also contributed 7 assists in 33 appearances for City this season. A man of the match performance against neighbours Manchester United in September set the tone and the 30 year old midfielder has continued to excel. A brace against West Brom, a hatrick against Fulham and a crucial goal against Crystal Palace last month make Toure and worthy candidate for the award.

Seamus Coleman (Everton)

Right back Seamus Coleman has been instrumental under Spaniard Roberto Martinez this season and the young Irish defender has played in all but two league games. Coleman has scored six goals from full back and his marauding overlapping runs and strong performances have really caught the eye. Coleman was recently named in the PFA team of the season. Everton’s season will finish on a high with one game to game they have secured a 5th place finish and with it Europa League qualification for next season.

Adam Lallana (Southampton)

The Southampton and England international has been a revelation this season, and his form means that he is almost a certainty to be included in Roy Hodgson’s England World Cup squad. Whether it be central midfield, wide left, wide right or behind the frontman, Lallana’s creativity on the ball and added goal threat have been very impressive this season. Lallana has played in every league game this season for Southampton scoring 9 goals and providing 6 assists for his team mates. In only their second season back in the Premier League Southampton will finish in 8th place.

Emmanuel Adebayor (Tottenham)

Despite not featuring much during the first half of the season under Andre Villas Boas, since Tim Sherwood took charge of first team at Tottenham Adebayor has returned to form in front of goal scoring 10 goals in just 19 league appearances. Braces against Southampton, Swansea, Newcastle and Sunderland have kept Tottenham on course for a top 6 finish and with it European qualification for next season.
