Fresh Degen blow for Reds

Liverpool defender Philipp Degen is facing a further spell on the sidelines after sustaining a metatarsal injury.

The Swiss full-back has endured a frustrating start to life at Anfield following his arrival on a free transfer last summer from Borussia Dortmund.

Degen has made just two first-team appearances for Rafael Benitez's side following a string of injury problems.

The 25-year-old right-back has yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Reds.

His latest setback occurred while playing for the reserves against Manchester United last week.

"Scans have revealed there is no break to the metatarsal, but it will still be at least a month before he is back in action," read a club statement.
