Fowler left Australian club Perth Glory in June citing family reasons, and said he would "stay in the UK to complete my coaching badges".

However, the striker has now seemingly decided against a return to England and has instead agreed to move to Phuket.

The 36-year-old striker, who scored 183 goals during eight years at Liverpool and won 26 England caps, is due to arrive in Thailand on Friday and undergo a medical check-up, according to Ronnarit Suewaja, general manager of Muang Thong Utd.

"He agreed to play with Muang Thong United as a forward," Suewaja said.

"I'm confident that Thai football will improve as a famous player like him has agreed to join us."
