Former Liverpool chief Parry called in to help Qatar 2022

Qatar has signed up former Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry to help cope with security issues at the 2022 World Cup.

Parry has been named as an adviser to the Qatar-based International Centre for Sport Security, which deals with safety and security at major sporting events across the world.

Parry is drawing on 12 years' experience at Liverpool to help the tiny Gulf state prevent any major disasters.

He said: 'The critical thing is looking at people flows and ticketless fans. When Liverpool went to Athens for the Champions League final, it wasn't a proper football stadium. Istanbul, from just about every perspective, was memorable - but for the fan experience it was pretty horrific.'
