Five strikers linked with January moves to Liverpool

Although the January window is a few months away general speculation is never far from Liverpool's door, talk of players stepping through Melwood's door never stops and although Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge are forming a partnership up front for the Reds at the moment, there is still a feeling that the Reds could improve their attacking options when the winter window opens.

With the young Italian Fabio Borini out on loan to Sunderland for the season Liverpool only really have Iago Aspas and Chelsea loanee Victor Moses to fall back on and with the former yet to find his feet in the Premier league Liverpool on paper seem a bit light in alternatives should injury or suspension hit either of Suarez or Sturridge.

Here are five names that are/have been linked with moves to Liverpool.

Christian Tello

Christian Tello

Tello is the first name on the list pretty much because he’s been constantly linked with a move to Liverpool over the last 18 months, the 22-year-old Barcelona forward, although very talented is seeing his chances of regular first-team football on the decline. Although he has (at the time of writing) 2 assists this season he’s only managed 2 starts and for someone that was tipped for great things when he made his début three years ago, Tello has not managed to cement a regular spot on the Barcelona squad. Tello was recently quoted in the Daily Star as saying he knows of Liverpool’s interest in him; however he also reaffirmed his commitment to Barca.

Lacina Traore

Lacina Traore

Like Tello, Traore has been linked with Liverpool in the last few weeks. The Metro have reported that Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala’s are looking to offload its big names, and Traore, who played against Liverpool in the Europa League last season, looks to be heading for the exit.

Personally I don’t believe this rumour has any legs as Rodgers doesn’t seem to like the "big man" type striker, and who was quick to ship out Andy Carroll from Merseyside on his arrival at the club last year.

Konstantinos Mitroglou

Konstantinos Mitroglou

Here's a name that unless you follow Greek football you might not have much info on, but 25-year-old Mitroglou has tongues wagging as he's scoring for fun for Olympiakos, netting four hat-tricks so far this season and assisting in a further three.

According to the DailyStar Liverpool are said to be among a range of clubs, including several Champions League teams, keeping tabs on the Greek international.

Diego Costa

Diego Costa

This season Diego Costa is on fire for Atletico Madrid. After the departure of Radamel Falcao, Costa has stepped up to fill the goal scoring void left by the Columbian and currently sits atop of the goal scoring charts with 10 goals ahead of both Lionel Messi (8) and Critiano Ronaldo (7).

Liverpool were linked with the Brazilian 25-year-old throughout the summer and were said to have triggered a £22million release clause in his contract, according to the Daily Mail. However for whatever reasons Costa opted not to move to Anfield and instead signed a new contract with Atletico.

Brendan Rodgers was obviously keen on the striker and may be tempted to try his hand at bringing the Brazilian to Liverpool once again.

Alvaro Morata

Alvaro Morata

According to the Metro Real Madrid and Spain youngster Alvaro Morata could be part of potential cash plus player swap deal, which would ultimately see Suarez move to the Bernabeu and Morata head to Anfield.

The 20-year-old is highly rated in Spain, but is struggling to find first team football and with the summer signing of Gareth Bale the youngster development may be hindered as a fit Bale would obviously start ahead of the Spanish starlet.
