Fernando Torres[LNB]FERNANDO TORRES has welcomed Roy Hodgson's appointment but says he will not be speaking to the new Liverpool manager until after the World Cup.[LNB]Within minutes of being unveiled last Thursday, Hodgson made clear his intention to seek discussions with Torres and Steven Gerrard amid speculation regarding the star duo's Anfield futures.[LNB]Hodgson was adamant he would fight to keep the club's best players and has already met with Gerrard to detail his plans to take the Reds forward. The former Fulham boss was hoping to speak to Torres by telephone but now the striker has put talks on hold so he can focus on Spain's World Cup campaign.[LNB]Vicente Del Bosque's team beat Paraguay 1-0 at the weekend to set up a semi-final with Germany in Durban on Wednesday night.[LNB] Naturally, Torres doesn't want any distractions ahead of such an important game.[LNB]He said: 'I was happy he (Hodgson) got the job.[LNB]'I haven't had a chat with him yet but I will talk with him soon and we will see his ideas about the future.[LNB]'For now, my future is here. South Africa and the World Cup is too important to think about things after that.[LNB]'I have a very important week still here and after that I will have time to talk with him and talk about my future.'[LNB]With the likes of Barcelona, Manchester City and Chelsea said to be waiting in the wings should Torres decide his future is away from Liverpool, it is likely to be an anxious wait for Hodgson.[LNB]However, the 62-year-old has been given the seal of approval from the Spaniard.[LNB]Torres was an interested spectator as Hodgson guided Fulham to the Europa League final against his former club Atletico Madrid last season.[LNB]Now, Torres appears to have faith in Hodgson to help revive Liverpool's fortunes after a poor season in which they finished seventh in the Premier League and failed to qualify for the Champions League.[LNB]'He did really well at Fulham and I am sure he can do better for Liverpool,' said the 27-year-old.[LNB]'He is a very good manager. He showed that in the past and in the last season with Fulham.[LNB]'Hopefully he will be the right man to give Liverpool the opportunity to be strong again.'
