Fernando Torres: THAT 4-1 win at Old Trafford reignited my Liverpool career

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres returns to Old Trafford this weekend looking to kick start his season the way his side's 4-1 win there 18 months ago kick-started his career.[LNB]What a day: Fernando Torres celebrates his equaliser at Old Trafford in March 2009[LNB]The 26-year-old has scored just once this term as his team have struggled to make an impression in the Premier League.[LNB]But Torres, whose time at Anfield has been blighted by injuries, cannot wait to face unbeaten Manchester United in their own backyard because what happened in March 2009 still inspires him.[LNB]On that day United led 1-0 before suffering a stunning 4-1 home defeat, Torres scoring the equaliser.[LNB]And the Spain World Cup winner said: 'Hardly anybody ever wins at Old Trafford and beating Manchester United 4-1 on their own ground is practicallyunheard of. [LNB]'We went 1-0 down as well which made the victory that muchmore impressive. I scored the equaliser and to this day I think thathas to be one of my favourite days wearing the Liverpool shirt.'[LNB]United went on to win the title that season but the result kept Liverpool in the hunt and helped Torres enjoy a fruitful run-in. [LNB]Even though the match is not at Anfield, the city of Liverpool is already geared up for their match of the season.[LNB]Torres added in Match of the Day Magazine: 'I walk my dogs round the city, and before matches like United the fans will tell you good luck and things like that. It'sclear how much the Manchester United games means to them, we have beenrivals a lot of years.[LNB] No stopping him: Fernando Torres beats Nemanja Vidic to score at Old Trafford en route to Liverpool's famous 4-1 win[LNB]'Liverpool fans are great, when you play well they are behind you and when you are not playing the best they are still behind you.[LNB]'Beating United means everything to them. We are the two most successful teams inEngland but it has not be nice for the Liverpool fans to watchManchester United have so much success over the recent years. [LNB]'We have agreat squad and a great manager, and we really hope to give the fans atrophy this season, as well as beating Manchester United for them.'[LNB]Torres is most fearful of United striker Wayne Rooney, himself a Scouser, ruining his big day. [LNB]He said: 'They have some amazing players, but I think Wayne Rooney is their standout player, so I would have to go for him. Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggshave had great starts to the season though, and if they were still inthe 20's then I don't think my decision would be quite so easy.'[LNB]However, Torres is looking forward to meeting up with Rooney again, revealing: 'I really like him. He is a great player and a funnyguy, so we usually have a little chat at the end of the game.'[LNB]Read the full interview in Match of the Day Magazine, on sale now priced £1.99[LNB] United and Liverpool target Benzema tracked by Serie A giants Juventus Torres can bounce back by mauling Man United, says Reds hero DalglishMilan Jovanovic out to rediscover his shooting boots to kick start Liverpool's seasonBirmingham 0 Liverpool 0: Reina to the rescue as Roy's away pain continuesEngland World Cup hero Stiles ready to sell off treasured 1966 medalWe wanted Villa!
