Fernando Torres 300[LNB]FERNANDO TORRES today admitted he is desperate to see Liverpool's search for new owners reach a swift and successful end to aid the club's bid to recover and get back to the top.[LNB]The transfer window closed yesterday without Liverpool signing the striker they need to act as back up to Torres, despite entering talks with four clubs.[LNB]Bayern Munich's Mario Gomez was high on the wanted list, while there was also a late attempt to do a deal with West Ham United for Carlton Cole.[LNB]But once again, another summer has passed with the Reds needing to wheel and deal and Kop hero Torres has articulated the thoughts of supporters by saying the situation cannot continue.[LNB] Torres still has faith the new season can be successful but knows Liverpool's chances of pushing for honours will improve once Tom Hicks and George Gillett have gone.[LNB]'It is fundamental new owners arrive who can make us a competitive side,' said Torres, who is away with Spain's squad for their games against Liechtenstein and Argentina.[LNB]'We're not that far behind.[LNB]"We had an appalling season last time around but the year before we were just four points from Manchester United.[LNB]'Hopefully we can find a consortium that buys the club and can make Liverpool able to fight financially with Chelsea and United.[LNB]'Then let's see what we're capable of doing this season. We kept Steven Gerrard, which is fundamental. It is still a great team.
