Fergie lays into 'crazy' FA discipline system as Stevie is clear to face United

Sir Alex Ferguson last night labelled the FA 'dysfunctional' and 'crazy' for their failure to ban Steven Gerrard ahead of Sunday's crunch Barclays Premier League clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford. United manager Ferguson has called for a change in the disciplinary system after Gerrard was not banned for an elbow in the face of Portsmouth's Michael Brown on Monday just weeks after Rio Ferdinand was suspended for four games for a similar offence against Hull City. I don't think they know what they are doing. 'There's no consistency for a start. I never expect any. They'll do what they want down there. It's crazy at times.' Ferguson wants the FA to scrap their current procedures and allow former managers to form a new disciplinary panel. He added: 'The managers who don't have a job could take over. We could have four sitting every Sunday assessing the TV issues of the weekend.'
