Fairclough backs Tranmere switch

Former Liverpool star David Fairclough has praised the decision to stage reserve-team matches at League One Tranmere Rovers next season. Fairclough, who enjoyed a spell with the Wirral club, believes the quality of the Prenton Park pitch will be a big benefit to John McMahon's side who will move from Warrington's Halliwell Jones Stadium. "It's a good footballing surface at Prenton Park and I think that will be a key asset for the team," he told the club`s official website. "The accommodation at the Halliwell Jones Stadium and the way Liverpool were received was first class, but unfortunately the pitch didn't suit a passing game. "They will benefit from playing on a good surface and it's not too far away to go to Tranmere. "Hopefully we will get some good crowds next season with people looking to see the young players."
