Eto'o to solve Liverpool striker shortage?

It seems that Liverpool is of interest to the player who famously fell out with Chelsea boss Mourinho who questioned his age. The 33-year-old striker would like to stay in the Premier League and has reportedly held talks along with his agent at the Anfield club who are considering a firm offer for the player say the Mirror.

Ajax are also said to be interested in Samuel Eto’o but Liverpool are thought to be in a better position to meet the players salary demands and it could be that a short-term deal might be an appealing option. Liverpool find themselves back in the Champions League for the first time in some years and will be mindful of the future and meeting the demands of Premier League and Champions League whilst not growing the squad too rapidly.

Brendan Rodgers has stated that they are not interested in bringing Marquee signings to the club just for the sake of it. The Cameroon striker who finds himself in the position of being a free agent after leaving Chelsea will have his salary requirements tempered by not having a club fee to find. Eto’o is believed to have earned £7m from his one-year contract at Stamford Bridge which itself was a massive £13m drop from his time at Anzhi Makhachkala.

Rogers has until the 1st September of course to add an additional striking option to his squad and with the likes of Falcao only being available for grossly inflated loan fee’s the options are diminishing. Liverpool have not made an official offer but will need to get a move on with the transfer of Remy going south due to medical concerns. Expect this one to be close to the wire if it happens.

Eto’o does of course have a significant reputation and experience as a goalscorer with Europe’s elite clubs such as Barcelona where he scored 108 times in 145 appearances from 2004-2009.
