Dunmanway prepare for Liverpool clash

Liverpool will play arguably the strangest pre-season game of the summer when they send a team to face the amateurs Dunmanway Town in west Cork on Thursday. Dunmanway landed the game when one of their players David Hall, the local doctor, rang Liverpool and invited them to send a team for a match, which the Anfield club duly accepted. Manager John Buckley said: "I had my reservations when he did it, I honestly thought they'd ignore us." Dunmanway usually play in front of around 20 people for league matches and have borrowed the ground of the Maria Immaculata Community College where they have hired portable seating, with a 3,000 crowd expected. Liverpool will send a side of reserves and youth players under coach John McMahon, predominantly the squad that lost 4-3 to Bristol Rovers on Monday. Liverpool secretary Ian Silvester said: "We are aware of the enormous fan base in the region and are happy to bring a taste of the Premier League to fans in west Cork."
