Dossena not leaving Reds

Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena has dismissed suggestions that he wants to quit the Reds before the transfer window closes.

The Italy international has started the new season down the pecking order at Anfield following a mixed first season in the Premier League last term.

The Reds were believed to have accepted an offer from Napoli for the 27-year-old left-back earlier in the summer but Dossena remains part of manager Rafael Benitez's squad.

Juventus were also rumoured to be interested in taking him back to Serie A.

Benitez paid Udinese £6.5million for his services last summer and Dossena claims he wants to stay at Anfield and reclaim his starting place.

"I've heard a lot of rumours about my future this summer but the truth is I want to remain at Liverpool," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"I'm happy with my team-mates, with my coach and with the club. I have never wanted to leave."
