Dossena - We can play catch-up

Andrea Dossena is confident Liverpool can recover from a run of four successive defeats and get back on track. The Reds have been beaten by Fiorentina and Lyon in the UEFA Champions League and now face a fight to qualify for the knockout stages. Losing to Chelsea and Sunderland in the Premier League has also left them down in eighth place ahead of Sunday's eagerly-anticipated clash with leaders Manchester United. Dossena nevertheless believes the situation will improve once injured stars such as Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres return to action. "I believe we can play catch-up," the Italian full-back said in an interview with Tuttonapoli.it. "We have not won in the last four games and we face difficult games against Manchester United and at Lyon. "But we hope to recover Fernando Torres, Albert Riera and Steven Gerrard, key players in this team." Dossena has had to watch his team-mates from the sidelines after sustaining a groin problem in the Carling Cup victory over Leeds last month and he is itching to get back on the pitch. "Initially I was supposed to be out of action for a week, but then the injury reappeared," he said. "I have now been sidelined for a month and the recovery is going well. I expect to be available in the coming weeks." Dossena is determined to make a name for himself at Anfield after being linked with a move away from the club during the summer. Napoli were interested in luring him back to Italy and Dossena admits he could still explore such an option if he fails to establish himself as a regular starter with Liverpool. "I am happy to be a Liverpool player. I have a lot of will to prove that I can have a say in England," he insisted. "I accept that there is a lot of competition in my role and I will wait for my turn to play. "I have the advantage of playing in an important club that has several players available for each role. "Benitez appreciates my professionalism and knows my potential and I respect his decisions. "If in the future I do not enter in the plans of the coach, only then would I evaluate other destinations, including that of Napoli."
