On-loan Belgian striker Divock Origi could be set for a January return to Liverpool. Origi arrived at Liverpool from Lille for around £10m this summer. Liverpool’s attacking force already consisted of Daniel Sturridge, Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert. With Mario Balotelli arriving from Milan for around £16m, Origi was shipped back to Lille for a season-long loan.

The 19 year old scored his first goal back in Ligue 1 against Caen to secure a 1-0 victory for his side. He has now scored three goals in seven games since returning to France.

Liverpool included a call-back clause in the deal and now Origi could return to Merseyside in the January transfer window. Liverpool have struggled to build upon last season’s tremendous form with Sturridge plagued with injuries and Balotelli yet to score in the league.

Brendan Rodgers is hoping Lille will agree to terminate the loan in January with the Northern Irishman wanting to bring the forward back to Anfield. Origi himself has admitted he is keen to impress Rodgers and admitted there is regular contact between the two.

Origi said: "The Liverpool manager regularly sends me a text message. They follow me and scouts attend all my games. But it's an advantage I'm at Lille for a season where I can continue to develop and play a lot. That's the positive side of the story."
