Kenny Dalglish has commented on the news of the death of Wales manager Gary Speed.

"It's come as a shock to myself and everybody that's involved in football," said the Liverpool boss. "He was a smashing lad and really well respected. We don't know the circumstances obviously, but there will be a lot of people in football disappointed and saddened by what's happened.

"The most important people at this moment in time is his wife and kids. They must be absolutely devastated. Football comes a wee bit irrelevant when something like this happens. He was a very well respected man in and around football, not only for his ability but for the guy as a person."
