Comment: Liverpool FC stars light up the pitch and Anfield stands

A day when stars lit up the pitch and the Anfield stands[LNB]ONE thing that Anfield was not short on yesterday was man of the match performers.[LNB]Across the park Liverpool were committed, intelligent and positive as they picked and probed holes in United's floundering challenge.[LNB]The back four was solid as Glen Johnson played a more stereotypical full-back role and Fabio Aurelio proved a valuable allay for Emiliano Insua in protecting the left flank.[LNB]Skipper Jamie Carragher was simply immense alongside the assured Daniel Agger, while in the middle of midfield Lucas rose to the occasion and helped the phenomenal Javier Mascherano boss Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick almost into submission.[LNB]Yossi Benayoun was bright and inventive, Dirk Kuyt typically tireless while Fernando Torres was, well, Fernando Torres.[LNB]But perhaps the biggest performance of the day was that of the home crowd.[LNB]The atmosphere inside Anfield was electric yesterday.[LNB]It's been a tough couple of weeks for Liverpool fans.[LNB]Four back to back defeats left most limping into Anfield yesterday more filled with hope than any real confidence.
